Flowers in your hair
Some of us wish we were perfect. A perfect relationship with a perfect soul mate. Perfect friends who love us all the time.
We all know that is fantasy. I think imperfection is perfect. It is interesting. It is challenging and rewarding and real. It is life.
Nobody is perfect, no love is perfect and no relationship is perfect. And before anyone else can love us, we have to learn to love ourselves. You have heard that a million times. It is still true. How can you expect to attract love when you do not feel worthy of it?
Questions for the mirror
- What do you love about yourself?
- What is your own style?
- What draws people to you?
- What do you have to offer?
- Why would you want to be your friend?
They are worth some thought. When you can see the good in yourself, you start to attract more good into your life, and people who are drawn to who you actually are. Maybe even the love you have been waiting for.
Go for it on your own
Everyone has something that is theirs alone. Be the best you can be and have fun with it. Do the things that make you happy.
And do not wait for anyone to come with you. If you cannot find someone who shares your passion, jump in with both feet on your own. You will be amazed how quickly you meet new friends that way, and how much fuller life gets. Spend your time with the people who appreciate you and feed your spirit.
If your idea of a great outfit is flowers in your hair and flip flops in the snow, go for it. Wear your personality proudly. When you are happy with who you are, it spills over onto everyone around you, and soon you are surrounded by people who appreciate you for it.
After 50 there is no one left to dress for except yourself. Enjoy that.
Change what you can
If something does not make you happy, change it. Do not like your hair? Change it. Wear the colours that make you feel beautiful. Take a little extra time looking after yourself. Nobody is stopping you from being who you really are, except you.
Make the most of who you are, and stop wasting time wishing you looked like someone else. The healthier you are on the inside, the more beautiful you become on the outside.
Embrace who you are, and celebrate it.
