What happens during a feng shui consultation?

A feng shui consultation with me starts before we ever meet. You send me your floor plan, a compass reading and the birth dates of everyone in the house, and I work out your home's chart ahead of time. Then you walk me through the house on a video call, room by room, and within two days you have a written plan for what moves, what goes and what each room is for now.

That is the short version. Here is what actually happens, and what does not.

What people worry I will do

The biggest fear is that I will walk in, tell you nothing in your house is any good, fill it with strange crystals and have you paint the walls an odd colour. I don't do that.

Feng shui is a system of energy. When people use a crystal, or anything else, what they are really doing is setting an intention. The crystal itself is not going to change things. Your intention is. You do not have to buy any of it.

Colour is the same. All colours carry energy, so we use them as accents. I will never tell you to paint your whole house blue. It does not work that way.

Before we meet: the map, the compass and the people

Walking into a home tells me how it feels. The floor plan, the compass and the birth dates tell me what traditional feng shui says is happening underneath. I need both. I do not want to make recommendations only because a room looks pretty, feels cluttered or gets nice light. Those things matter, but classical feng shui has a structure of directions, timing and personal numbers, and I use it.

The floor plan is my map

I use it to find the centre of the house, the eight directions, where the bedrooms and kitchen sit and how everything flows. A hand-drawn one is fine. Once the calculations are laid over it, I can look at the whole house, not just the rooms that catch my eye.

The compass tells me which way the house faces

This is one of the most important parts of the reading. The Flying Star system depends on the facing direction, and that is not always the direction of the front door. I also keep track of magnetic north against true north. A compass reads the magnetic field, a map shows true north, and the gap between them changes from place to place.

Birth dates tell me about the people

This is one of my favourite parts. Your birth year gives you a personal number, and that number has its own good and difficult directions. Two people in the same house often need their desks or their side of the bed facing different ways, and that happens all the time. We look at each person on their own, and then at the household as a whole. If you want a Chinese astrology reading as well, I add it in, but you do not need it.

The Flying Star chart adds time

I love this chart because it brings in when the house was built or last renovated. Two identical houses, one finished in 2015 and one in 2025, have completely different charts. We entered Period 9 in February 2024, and an older house does not become a Period 9 house just because the calendar moved on.

The walkthrough

Before the call I look at the property on maps and satellite images, so I already know the street, the neighbours and what surrounds the house. On the call itself you carry your phone or laptop from room to room for about 75 minutes. I may ask you to turn the camera, open a door or stand where your desk is. Please do not tidy first. I want to see the house you actually live in.

We check the compass readings together, and I share my screen so you can see your own floor plan and chart while we talk. Nothing is hidden from you.

An interior designer might walk into your bedroom and say the bed looks better against that wall. I may look at the same room, check the directions for the two people who sleep in it and suggest something completely different. Then I check whether my suggestion works in real life. There is no point telling you to move a bed somewhere you cannot live with it.

Doing this online does not mean I do less. When I visit in person, I collect everything and go home to do the calculations. Online, the calculations are done before we meet, so I can tell you far more during the call. If you would still like me in the room, I can come to your home for an extra fee.

A house where nobody could settle

One family came to me with a house that felt chaotic, and honestly it was. Nothing had a place and nobody seemed settled. Their daughter could not sleep and was anxious all the time.

When I went down to the basement, I found the answer. The mother was a doctor, and she had stored about ten years of patient records there, along with moulds and everything else from her practice. That storage sat directly under her daughter's bedroom.

We cleaned up the whole house. I asked her to move every one of those files to a storage unit, because they should not be in the home carrying the energy of all those people. We put only good things in the space under the daughter's room, and we organised the rest. Afterwards, the family told me everyone was sleeping more calmly.

That is what I mean by reading a house. The answer was not a crystal. It was a box of files in the wrong place.

What you have at the end

Within 48 hours you get your written report: your home's chart, everyone's numbers and directions, and a plan room by room for what moves, what goes and what each room is for now. It is written to be done with what you already own. A month later we talk again for thirty minutes, you tell me what changed, and I adjust anything that did not sit right.

Some of the most useful changes cost nothing. Moving a desk. Reclaiming a room. Finally giving a hobby somewhere to live.

Who it is for, and when to wait

Our homes often stay the same long after our lives have changed. We spend decades arranging a house around children, careers, partners and routines, and then something shifts. The children leave. Work ends. A partner dies, or a new one moves in with thirty years of their own furniture. Or nothing dramatic happens at all, and you just notice you avoid certain rooms.

That is who I want to help: someone whose house is still organised around the person they used to be.

There are times I would tell you to wait. If you have just lost someone and feel pushed to clear out their things, take your time. We can start with one small space that feels entirely your own, whenever you are ready. If you are moving in two weeks and only need help packing, a professional organiser will serve you better. If there is mould, unsafe wiring or anything structural, call a qualified tradesperson first. And if a couple disagrees about living together at all, moving the bed will not fix that.

Feng shui is not a promise to fix your health, your money or your marriage. It is a very old way of reading and arranging a space, and in my work it always comes with practical changes you can see and feel.

You do not need a tidy house, a decorating budget or any knowledge of feng shui. You only need to be curious about what is possible and willing to change something, even something small.

Questions people ask about feng shui consultations

How long does a feng shui consultation take?

The walkthrough itself is about 75 minutes on video. Before it, you spend around thirty minutes on a questionnaire, and a month later we have a thirty minute check in. From start to finish, it takes about a month.

How much does a feng shui consultation cost?

My Home Reset is $697 CAD, paid once. That covers the questionnaire, the 75 minute walkthrough, your full written report and the follow-up call. A visit to your home is available for an extra fee.

Can feng shui be done online?

Yes. I do the calculations from your floor plan, compass reading and birth dates before we meet, and you show me the house with your camera. A slow walk with your phone often shows me more than a house tidied up for a visitor.

Do I need to know my home's facing direction?

No. I show you how to take a compass reading, and we check it together on the call. The facing direction is often not the same as the front door, so I would rather confirm it with you than guess.

Will I have to buy crystals or repaint?

No. Most of what I suggest uses furniture, light and the things you already own. Colours come in as accents, never a whole repainted house.

Do I have to believe in feng shui for it to help?

No. Try the changes and judge them by how the house feels a month later. Many of my clients' partners start out sceptical and go along with it because the plan is so practical.
